Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible for any of the scholarships available at New Life Community Church students must be a member of the church for at least one year, attending church regularly (Sunday morning and youth services). Furthermore, students can apply for more than one scholarship but will be awarded no more than one. If you do not apply for a specified scholarship, you will not be considered for that scholarship.

The New Life Community Church Leadership Award

The NLCC Leadership Award is to encourage undergraduate students to develop their leadership abilities through practical experience, personal reflection and in community with mentors and peers. With the support of a Leadership Scholarship, you can devote more time to pursuing an activity or project that interests you and that will allow you to expand your leadership capacity. In the application process, we ask you to articulate your own understandings of leadership, what you want to learn, and how you think the activity you have chosen will support your learning goals. Additionally, you must identify a mentor to provide you guidance and encouragement throughout your application process and award period.

New Life’s leader and founder, L.C. Marr, Jr, recognizes students who demonstrate innovative, initiative-driven leadership impacting their academic, work, or community environments. Successful candidates are role models with an extraordinary sense of public service. They can come from any walk of life but all share a deep and selfless concern for others. They have a long-term commitment to social improvement, community well-being, nation, or world. Ideally, they have also committed themselves to service in their church (NLCC) and/or an organization designed to serve others and also made an impact that will last their lifetime and beyond.

Students eligible for this award should demonstrate exemplary leadership, vision, and passion that is blazing a trail for others to follow and changing lives in their community. Award winners must have a GPA of 2.5 and higher. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on their academic ability and achievements, leadership, participation in community service and extracurricular activities and the applicant’s answer to the scholarship essay question. Must be registered full-time at an accredited university or college pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

Applicants are required to complete the application in full and write a 500-word essay answering the following question: “What makes a good leader and who have you seen demonstrate this in your life?”
